- Apply online. The application can be updated online before submission.
To complete the application, do the following:
- Check the deadline for the program you wish to enter.
Application deadlines vary by department and program. All parts of the application — including test scores, letters of recommendation, and credential evaluation — must be received by the deadline for the application to be considered complete and on time. Some departments will not accept late or incomplete applications. It is recommended that Graduate Studies receive your application at least 30 days before the deadline.
- Take the required tests for your program.
Test scores must be submitted to directly to BYU from the testing agency to be considered official. Unofficial test scores may prevent your application from being considered.
- Take an acceptable English proficiency test.

- Apply online and pay application fee.
Complete and submit your graduate application online. You may pay your application fee online by credit card.
- Obtain a credential evaluation from an approved agency.
BYU requires all international applicants to use a credential evaluation service for transcript and degree verification. BYU currently accepts reports from ECE, IERF, and WES. You may choose which organization you would like to use.
- Obtain letters of recommendation from three professors or professionals.
They should know you and be able to evaluate your potential as a graduate student at BYU. These letters must either be in English or include a certified translation.
- Complete the Honor Code Commitment online as part of your application and download
the endorsment (Form E) to take to your interviewer.
The Honor Code Commitment and Ecclesiastical Endorsement are required of all applicants, regardless of religion.
- Complete any additional application materials that may be required by your department.
This may include writing samples, research papers, art slides, audition tapes, interviews, etc. For specific requirements, contact the department.
- Complete the Financial Certification form and, if necessary, the Contract of Support.
Proper documentation, such as bank statements, tax forms, etc. must accompany these forms to verify any finances declared.
- Submit evidence of current visa or immigration status for self and/or dependents.
You may present the original documents or submit certified copies of these documents to Graduate Studies.
- Complete the remainder of the application.
Collect your letters of recommendation, ecclesiastical endorsement, application fee, or other required materials that haven't been submitted online, and mail them to Graduate Studies, Brigham Young University, B-356 ASB, Provo, UT 84602, USA.
