Brigham Young University
Brigham Young University is located in Provo, Utah, about 45 miles south of Salt Lake City. Established in 1875 as the Brigham Young Academy, the school is privately owned and operated by the Church Education System of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Today the university enrolls approximately 30,000 students and employs 4,100 full-time faculty, administrative, and staff personnel. Part-time employees include approximately 1,450 faculty and staff and 13,000 students.
Provo, Utah
Nestled between the foothills of Y Mountain and the east shore of Utah Lake, Provo was first settled by the Mormons in 1849 as the first LDS colony in Utah outside of the Salt Lake Valley. To the north of the city, Mount Timpanogos (elevation 11,957 feet) dominates the horizon. As the state's third largest city, Provo is the cultural, social, and economic hub of Utah County. Residents of Provo have direct access to shopping malls, water parks, and ice-rinks, and still are just a few minutes from scenic canyons, alpine and cross-country skiing, fishing, and boating.

The Utah Valley — A Great Place to Live
With its low crime rate and its family-centered culture, Provo and other cities in Utah County are continuously ranked as some of the best cities to live and raise a family. The cost of living in Provo is considerably lower than other cities. Hospitals are close by, with Utah Valley Medical Center about a mile from BYU campus. Salt Lake City International Airport is only about 50 miles away, and Provo Airport now has daily flights. Utah Transit Authority provides adequate public transportation to and from BYU campus.
