The Application Process

How do I apply for a job at BYU?

Complete and save an application online at http://yjobs.byu.edu/, and then select and apply to individual job postings. If you need help in this process, please call Staff and Administrative Employment (801) 422-3563. You may also use the computers in our office at D-70 ASB (Abraham O Smoot Building) Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to closing time at 5:15 p.m. Our office is closed Tuesdays from 10:45 a.m. to noon for University Devotionals and Forums.

How will I be notified of my application status throughout the hiring process?

You will be notified of your application status via the email address and/or phone number you provide on your application. We highly encourage you to include and maintain a current email address on your application, as it is the main means of communication to you throughout the process.

May I work for a relative or family member?

No. Colleges /departments may not employ a person or contract for services with an individual in a position within the administrative scope or control of a near relative, including full-time and part-time personnel, special employees, faculty, administrative, staff, category II, category I, or students.

To whom may I address my cover letter?

Address your cover letter to "Selection Committee" or "Hiring Manager," instead of a specific individual.

Are letters of recommendation and resumes necessary?

Letters of recommendation and resumes may be required or optional, dependent on a department's request. Whether these attachments are required or optional for a particular position will be indicated as such on the YJobs posting.

Do I fill out the Employment History section on the application if I submit a resume?

Yes. Both are necessary to verify past employment. Information is requested on the application that is not generally provided on a resume. We encourage you to be detailed on your application.

If I am a current BYU employee, do I need to submit an application?

Yes. All applications are submitted online at http://yjobs.byu.edu.
