Personnel Required to Work on a Scheduled Holiday
If an employee must work on a day the University observes as a holiday, the supervisor may schedule another day off with pay. It would not need to fall within the same workweek. If another day off is not feasible, the department may add a day’s pay at straight time to the employees check to compensate for the holiday missed.
Holiday During Leave of Absence or Vacation
An employee will not be paid for a holiday, which occurs during leave without pay (e.g. holiday occurs on Monday, employee returns from leave on Tuesday – employee will not be paid for the Monday holiday). An employee will be paid for a holiday if an unpaid leave begins on the working day immediately following the holiday (e.g. holiday occurs on Monday, employee leave begins on Tuesday – employee will be paid for the Monday holiday).
A paid holiday will not be charged as part of vacation time when it falls within an employee’s vacation period.
BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY RESERVES THE ABSOLUTE RIGHT TO CHANGE OR DEVIATE FROM THESE PROCEDURES WITHOUT ADVANCE NOTICE.
