Tuition Benefit for Independent Study

All eligible full-time BYU personnel may qualify for reimbursement for an Independent Study (IS) course. Personnel may register for an IS course at any time and must pay the total tuition charge up-front. When the course has been completed, personnel may come to Benefits Services for possible reimbursement. The time span between IS course registration and course completion will be reviewed to determine if tuition reimbursement is applicable. The tuition benefit will pay for 6 credits each semester (credit totals for Spring and Summer Terms are combined). This total includes day classes, evening classes, classes taken for audit, Conference and Workshops, TBA, thesis and/or dissertation hours including any other eligible class or course that is offered by the University that is eligible for the tuition benefit. If personnel have already received 6 credits of tuition benefits for non IS courses, for each semester that is included in the time span of registration to completion, then personnel will not receive any reimbursement. If personnel have not exceeded the 6 credits each semester, they will be reimbursed according to credit limits.

Personnel must come to Benefits Services, D-240 ASB or call 801-422-4496 for tuition reimbursement no later than 60 days from the date of IS completion. The reimbursement amount will be posted on the student financial account. The funds will be dispersed through direct deposit.
