The Benefits Office provides a variety of programs and services for university personnel, spouses, and dependents. Programs encompass basic insurance coverage (medical, dental, group term life, occupational accidental death & dismemberment, disability), supplemental insurance options (life, accidental death & dismemberment, long-term care), retirement programs (pension plan, savings plans), and BYU benefits (flexible spending accounts, tuition benefits, ID cards). Services are provided to assist individuals with information, processing, personal data and general needs.
Long Term Care Insurance (LTC)
Why Would I Ever Need LTC?
What is Long Term Care Insurance (LTC)?
Long term care insurance pays for services required if a person is unable to care for himself/herself dure to injury, chronic illness, or disability.
It is a "RISK" insurance.
Just like car insurance - you buy it and hope you never need to make a claim!
Coverage includes:
- Skilled services, Intermediate Services, and Custodial Services
Provided through:
Retiree Medical Premiums
Most of us understand the vital role that personal savings plays in securing a comfortable lifestyle in retirement. The average retiree will be required to provide approximately 40% of the financial resources needed for retirement from personal savings (DMBA Thrift Plan, TIAA/CREF and IRA’s).
Flexible Spending Account
Perhaps Benjamin Franklin said it best in 1789: "In the world, nothing is certain but death and taxes." Surely Mr. Franklin would have been pleased with a change in the tax code nearly 200 years later that helps reduce income tax. But unfortunately, nearly 85 percent of Americans aren’t taking advantage of a provision that allows you to maximize your income by reducing your state and federal income tax (FICA and Medicare taxes, too!) At BYU we call it the Flexible Spending Account program, or FSA.
