BYU is committed to providing an environment that is inspiring, productive, comfortable, and safe and to follow legal requirements that prohibit unlawful discrimination. Treating others with respect is an essential aspect of this commitment and is a requirment of all employees according to both the Honor Code and federal law. Respectful conduct must permeate all aspects of the BYU community, including classroom and academic activities and campus employment. Harassing others because of thier age, color, disability, national origin, race, religion, sex, or veteran status is disrespectful. Limiting employment or educational opportunities because of these characteristics is unlawful.
The Equal Opportunity Office assists the University in its commitments by educating campus personnel on respectful behavior in the workplace and by addressing concerns about disrespectful and discriminatory behavior, including unlawful sexual harassment and inappropriate gender-based behavior. The Equal Opportunity Manager assists supervisors and managers in addressing complaints of sexual harassment or discrimination arising in the workplace and coordinates with management to train their workforce on these issues.
The Equal Opportunity Manager also administers the Family Medical Leave Act and assists in the interactive process between department and employee when an employee with a disability requests accommodation.
For assistance pertaining to alleged discrimination, including sexual harassment, or accommodating an employee with a disability, please contact the Equal Opportunity Manager, D-282 ASB, Phone: 801-422-5895.
