Additional Services
Computer, Internet, And Telephone
Top
Residents are welcome to bring their own computers, or they may rent one from the Office of Information technology. Computers are leased
on a first-come, first-serve basis. For further information, visit the computer rental page on the Office of Information technology web site.
High-speed BYU Ethernet connection is provided to each resident. the Ethernet Connection will give you direct access to the Internet and to BYU's campus
computing services, which include free-e-mail, university library and registration data bases, etc. Wireless routers are allowed as long as they
don't have a negative impact on others. For example, we find that if the router is not set up properly, the signal interferes with other
communication devices within the building.
Please see the Office of Information technology web site or call (801) 422-4000 for technical problems or access questions.
Each room in the residence halls has local telephone and caller ID service included with the housing agreement, but
residents are required to provide their own telephone and caller ID unit. Most analog telephones should work,
however only the models which are sold in the BYU Bookstore have been tested.
You shouldn't accept collect or third party billed calls. If you do, notify the Office of IT at 422-4000 immediately.
If no one claims responsibility, the cost of the call and fee will be billed equally among the residents of the room.
Use of the telephone for pranks or to defraud, distress or disturb others violates state and federal law and may
result in prosecution and/or disciplinary action.
