FLSR Program Information
The Foreign Language Student Residence (FLSR), located on
the northeast corner of campus, provides single students with a unique opportunity for an immersion language
experience while still continuing to pursue a regular class schedule. Residents in each apartment study the same
language and agree to speak only that language within their living quarters. A native speaker in each
apartment also provides opportunities to progress easily and rapidly to higher levels of fluency with expanded
vocabulary and increased cultural understanding.
House Meals
Each language "house" includes all apartments which speak the target language. The house meets together five
times per week (Sunday-Thursday) to prepare and enjoy dinner in cooking teams. These meals are mandatory,
and students admitted to the FLSR program must commit to being home Sunday through Thursday from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
The cost of these meals is included in the complex fee. If desired,
residents of the FLSR may also choose any one of BYU's meal plans.
Program Eligibility
The FLSR program is ideal for intermediate to advanced students. Only admitted, full-time BYU students
are eligible to apply to the FLSR Program, and consequently the Foreign Language Student Residence is not
an appropriate accommodation for students planning to study in the English Language Center. ELC students
should contact the ELC Office with housing questions.
FLSR Amenities
The Foreign Language Student Residence has large common rooms to easily accommodate social
activities. Large lawn areas and sports courts are also available for recreation. Each resident in the Foreign
Language Student Residence is provided with a bed, closet, desk, chair, and dresser. Each apartment is also
equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, stove, oven, dishwasher, ironing board, couch, table, chairs, television, VCR, and
DVD player. Rooms come without decor. Laundry facilities are located within the complex.
Rental payments include all utilities, in-room Ethernet connection, phone line, and Residence Life activities.
Program Application
Students should submit only a "FLSR Program Application" and not a "Single Student Housing Application" when applying for
the FLSR. Log in to My Housing Account
to submit your FLSR Program Application!
FLSR Program Contact Info
If you have specific questions about the Foreign Language Student Residence, please contact the FLSR Program
Office at (801) 422-3765 or flsr-dept@byu.edu.
